The overall objective of this project was to contribute to the democratization process and constructive inter-ethnic dialogue through challenging state capture in Kosovo by fostering and promoting positive inter- community cooperation and communication on major social challenges. In order to achieve this, we established Kosovo Collective, a body of Albanian and Serbian experts that can influence public discourse and decision-making processes at the national level and thus challenge state capture.
The aim of this project was to use the current opportunity and momentum, as well as collective intelligence of Albanian and Serbian young experts, academics, and analysts to challenge captured state and break this pattern of “ethnic based policies” and ruling narratives within Kosovo society. Furthermore, through this project and expert work, we confronted and unmasked the ruling mechanisms of both Serbian and Albanian political elites and offered shared discourse and joint vision on major social challenges in Kosovo.
Throughout project duration we organized 5 informal Chatham house rules discussions in Severna Mitrovica/Mitrovica e veriut, Brezovica/Brezovicë, Ferizaj/Uroševac and Prizren and summarized the main points of those discussions in a comprehensive report. The report is available in our Publication section in English, Serbian and Albanian.
We also published 22 Op-Eds, all of which are available in three languages on our website.
One topic warranted special attention, so we published a separate short report on the discussant’s remarks about the announced internal dialogue between the Government of Kosovo and Kosovo Serb community, it is available only in English
The project was supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy of the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. and USAID.
Project duration: 12/01/2020 – 12/14/2021
