About Kosovo from Kosovo

In the premises of Europe House in North Mitrovica, we had the opportunity to present the latest developed digital tool – a media platform that collects the news of 10 local newsrooms reporting in the Serbian language in Kosovo in real time in one place.

Kos-info.net is a platform designed to provide a solution for users looking for the latest information on current events in Kosovo in one place.

The platform works by automatically collecting articles from media such as Gračanica online, KoSSev, NEV PRESS production, Radio Goraždevac and others, and combines them into a single, comprehensive feed. This allows users to quickly and easily access a wide range of news and information from different sources, without having to visit multiple websites or manually search for information.

The event was opened by the Swiss ambassador to Kosovo, Thomas Kolly, who praised the potential of the platform to improve media pluralism and facilitate access to various sources of information.

“New Social Initiative did an outstanding job on this project. When it comes to all the information that has been published and collected, it is good when everyone has access to this information, which concerns the Serbian population in Kosovo. The platform is good, because people can control the true information, and it also has the possibility, in a really simple way, to get all the information in one place. Thank you for working to gather information and working to spread the word.” Kolly said.

Our Executive Director, Jovana Radosavljević, then gave an overview of the platform and its purpose, emphasizing the importance of supporting local media in their efforts to provide the audience with objective and accurate reporting and make their work more accessible to the public.

“Kos-info.net automatically collects local media news in one place in real time, thus making it easier for readers to search for news. We came up with the idea of forming this platform, because we see the key role of local media that report in the Serbian language from Kosovo and are often used as a credible source when crises develop on the ground.  Experiences and working in the environment have made these media highly professional, which may not be visible enough. We hope that this platform will change that, and to the audience in Kosovo and outside of Kosovo, it will reveal the pluralism of the local media, which report in the Serbian language and live and work in Kosovo. Also, we hope that the news produced by these media will reach media agencies in Belgrade, Pristina and beyond more easily in this way. We believe that this platform will be useful to you and that you will read news about Kosovo in one place.” said Radosavljević.

The presentation ended with the words from Vladimir Vučković and Đorđe Zubac, employees of the IT company W3Lab from North Mitrovica, which helped create the platform, emphasizing the technical aspects that went into the development of this valuable tool.

“It was necessary to find a solution for aggregating all news in one place, without having access to all portals and other sites. It was necessary to create a web application as well as an application for mobile platforms. The key challenge was to automate the system, that is, to make everything work without any human support,” Vučković said..

Web and mobile versions of this platform are currently available, and Android and IOS applications will be available soon.

The Kos-info.net platform was created as part of the “Linking Trough Lenses” project implemented by New Social Initiative (NSI) and supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo.
